US Government Strategy on Haiti
The U.S. Government (USG) Post-Earthquake Strategy in Haiti follows the Government of Haiti’s Action Plan For National Recovery and Development of Haiti, complements the international community’s efforts in Haiti, and targets sectors in which we can add the most value. Through USAID and our other USG partners, the USG is supporting four essential pillars of Haiti’s development:
To ensure that we are providing deep assistance that will have a lasting effect in Haiti, we are targeting three areas of the country, called development corridors, with our programs. We are working to build the capacity of the Government of Haiti to lead its country’s development, and are training Haitians in areas like construction and health, giving them the skills necessary to participate in their country’s reconstruction and development. Our rigorous oversight mechanisms ensure that U.S. taxpayer funds are spent wisely and effectively.
The USG is charting a new course of U.S. engagement in Haiti, a course that eventually will allow Haiti to stand in the hemisphere as an ally for regional security, an important partner in trade, and a valued neighbor.
