  On this 20th global observance of World AIDS Day, we celebrated life. In countless communities around the world, through partnerships with the American people, courageous individuals in nations devastated by HIV/AIDS are choosing life, saving the lives of their fellow countrymen and women, and creating hope for a future free of HIV/AIDS.
  
  
• 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence - November 25-December 10, 2008
  An international campaign designed to raise awareness of the violence faced by women and girls around the world, 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence provided a forum for organizations to come together and address the obstacles gender-based violence poses to issues of health and development.
